In The CLoud: VR Afterlife
Another collaboration with the VR studio Futurelighthouse, this time doing both art direction and CG supervision of the complete experience. The IP is a film by Crackle-Sony dealing with the dangers of generating backups for human conscience. The VR experience happens after the films and consists of the upload of the user conscience to the cloud after his death. Featuring Justin Chatwin, Adetomiwa Edun and Nora Arnezeder, the experience goes through a Limbo where mind and soul are synchronized, a trippy upload flying through cyberspace and mysterious place in the dark abyss of the servers. The full experience can be downloaded for free at the Oculus store and the PlayStation VR Store.
Both the UI that the user uses to navigate the experience and the holograms the characters interact with share a common form language in order to create the illusion of real operating system. To give the impression of a system that is under construction, console-like typography where used. Form language is reminiscent of ASCII art and early computer graphics, as well as microchips and military interfaces.
Time for production was really short, so a lot of fast prototyping was used to build the scenes, as well as the GPU powered render engine Octane. Concepts were done in 360 stereo in order to preview them directly in VR. The images above and below are 360 panoramas, drag or touch the image to look around.
